Ames is a disabled, nonbinary artist living in Rochester, NY.
Their life’s work has been an attempt at responding to creativity in whatever medium is available, observing themselves and the world, and responding with care and attention. The result of this practice are works made of wood, ceramic, paper, and words. The peices are crafted with care and intention, and function in the world as evidence of Ames’s lived experience, of their life. the sensitive observer can feel the presence in this work, and thereby feel a connection.
I relate strongly to YVES KLINE when he said: “MY PAINTINGS ARE THE ASHES OF MY ART”. In that same vein, My work is the product of my life of curiosity, love, passion, loneliness, wonder, misunderstanding, pain and the forces that restrict and release me. my art is the ongoing exploration of physical material, time, opposing forces, patience, disappointment, and persistence which happens in every moment. the art is the result of that pursuit frozen in time. it is what i have chosen to offer of myself.
